Café Color is your go-to for low-fire, vivid color magic on greenware or bisque.Want it food-safe? Add a clear glaze. Want it pretty for decor? Leave it be, and enjoy the satin finish.
Whether you go for full coverage or an ethereal translucent design, you’re going to look like a pottery wizard.
The Café Colours are the most spectacular range of bright coloured glazes that we manufacture and are available in three series; two low fire versions that are satin or glossy at Cone 06 (999°C) and Cone 04 (1,060°C) and a high fire version.
All are for decoration of bisque and they can be used either like an underglaze where 3 coats are applied to achieve full coverage or they can be used for detailed design with a translucent effect similar to One Strokes.
The distinct advantage of Café Colours is that they can be dipped into a clear glaze without having to first fire the colour. Or in the case of decorative ware, no clear glaze at all is required to obtain a range of different finishes.
Café Colours are progressively becoming more and more popular with PYOP studios and schools due to their ease of use and great colour range.
The pallet in each series consists of 60 colours, however colours may be intermixed to achieve an infinite range of colours.
The Gloss range may be identified by use of a “G” suffixed to the product code and the High Fire range may be identified by use of a “H” suffixed to the product code.
Café Colours are applied with an appropriate sized soft-bristled brush for detailed work. If a larger area is being covered, a generous sized brush will minimise streakiness and allow a most even application. Café Colours are also suitable for sponging and stippling.
Café Colours in a single coat application are essentially transparent; however opacity may be achieved by the application of 2 or 3 generous coats, in a cross-hatch manner.
Café Colours are designed for use directly from the bottle, although they may be sprayed or sponged. Clean water may be added to achieve alternate finishes or to adjust consistency for spraying.
Café Colors within a range may be intermixed to achieve new colors. So Satin mixed with Satin and Gloss mixed with Gloss.
The low fire versions of the café colors are for application to low fired earthenware clay that has been bisque fired to between cone 04 (1,060°C) and cone 03 (1,101°C), then glaze fired to between cone 06 (999°C) and cone 04 (1,060°C) using a suitable glaze.
The high fire version is for application to middle fire bisque and then glaze fire to between cone 4 (1,186°C) and cone 8 (1,263°C) using a suitable glaze.
Chrysanthos Speckled Café Colours are for decoration on bisqueware that may be dipped in Clear Superior Glaze or Clear Hobby Glaze. The colours can be used in conjunction with the Cafe Colours however if they are to be left undipped, they should be used with the gloss version of the cafe colours depending on the result required.
The colours in the range match up with the Cafe Colours of the same name. To distinguish them from the Cafe Colours, the code has been prefixed with “SC” followed by the number and the name has been prefixed with a “☆”.
